Fury live at the Ragnarok Club in Bree, Belgium (17-11-2023)

On a Sunday afternoon in November my good friend Ed picked me up to head our way to the Ragnarok club in Bree, Belgium to see the English band Fury. It was an exclusive Belgium club show and we were invited to be present at the soundcheck and live show that night.

After we’ve arrived at the venue we helped the band to bring their equipment inside. When were in, we drank some coffee and talked a little bit with the friendly owner Koen (who’s also the sound guy in this club) and his nice wife who served us at the bar. Later on we bought some merchandise from the band, watched the soundcheck, until we went out, to eat some Belgian fries to return back in for the concert. The concert was really great. The band from England (with bassplayer Becky Baldwin), who’s also known for being the current female bassplayer of the Danish Heavy Metal group Mercyful Fate and her role in Craig’s (Forbidden) project Bay Area Interthrashional kicked some serious ass.

Full of energy, this 5 piece band served us on a set of Heavy Power Metal with a lot of classical elements, including a lot of variety. This including Julian Jenkins and Nyah’s Ifill crystal clear clean voices, (both sounds sometimes like Gospel to me). Very good. Julian Jenkins who also plays the guitar and Tom Fenn on the Drums, Tom Atkinson on Guitar. I still cannot understand this very good English band is still quite unknown overseas. This is really weird, because the songs are very good, the dynamic in the band is strong and the energy is there. Also their is the perfect balance between heavy tunes and ballads in the setlist. The ballad “Upon The Lonesome Tide” even got some hit parade potential.

On the next album we can expect a more prominent role of backing vocalist Nyah, which makes me curious about the final product.

A super concert in a nice small club with a good sound. Thank You for the invitation! It was a real pleasure for my friend Ed Stegeman and myself to be there.
