You must be a proper glutton for punishment to also go for The Mondstein Chronicles Part 3: Wood & Bone. If you have survived the first two parts, you must have been drawn into the very abstract world of The Mondstein Chronicles. In this Part 3: Wood & Bone, they are actually telling a kind of fairy tale. I’m not going to tell you what it’s about, but it is intriguing.

Musically this is a proper follow-up to The Mondstein Chronicles Part 2: Ample Jazz, just with a lot more mellowness and soft tones in the mix. The experimental parts have been diminished, but are still very evident in all of the music. The structures have been refined even further, have been smoothed out even more, to make this the most accessible part of this threesome.

Again, there isn’t any headbanging or heaviness that I am used to, but a lot more interaction between pop, rock and jazz. This time, though, you can distinguish the head from the tail and you are able to listen and properly follow what is going on. The distractions are brought in in such a way that they actually compliment the music. I’m amazed. I like it. Never thought I’d say that about this kind of music.
