Liv Kristine is a Norwegian singer with a soprano voice that suits gothic metal and symphonic rock perfectly. She has sung in well-known bands such as Theatre of Tragedy and Leaves' Eyes. In addition to her solo activities, she sings alongside her younger sister Carmen Eslise Espenæs in the band Midnattsol.
In April, she released a solo album (her sixth) titled 'RIVER OF DIAMONDS' after a nine-year gap.
The music is a creative blend of metal, rock, and pop, with melodic lines that perfectly complement her distinctive soprano voice, giving each track a touch of gothic vibe.
The vinyl edition features 10 tracks, two fewer than the regular version of the album. The absence of Jon Lord's (DEEP PURPLE) "Pictured Within" is a loss because Liv Kristine's rendition (together with her husband Michael Espenæs) is beautiful.
The production quality of 'River Of Diamonds' is excellent, with a clear, well-balanced sound that does justice to both the vocals and the instrumentation. Liv's vocal abilities leave a strong impression on many occasions.
The songs on the album are solid compositions, all written by her former Theatre Of Tragedy bandmate, Tommy Olsen. The lyrics are inspired by love, romance, life, and the power of karma.
The album may not appeal to every metalhead, but it will certainly satisfy the large fan base Liv has built over the years, as well as anyone who is open to a creative musical journey with a gothic touch or vibe ranging from mild to intense.
Conclusion: 'River Of Diamonds' is a beautiful album. All the tracks are well-crafted, Liv Kristine is simply a masterful vocalist, and the album is varied enough to hold your attention. However, it may not resonate as much with fans of heavier music. Nonetheless, it is highly recommended.
